I offered to make chili the day we got back from Christmas vacation. Ray gave me rough instructions. This is what I came up with and he liked it!!!!!

  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 pounds hamburger
  • 1 tablespoon onion dried, minced
  • 1 teaspoon basil dried
  • 2 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 30 ounces tomato sauce
  • 29 ounces tomatos diced with juice
  • 30 ounces kidney beans dark red
  • 30 ounces great northern beans white beans
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes crushed
  • 1 tablespoon garlic dried, minced
  • 2 teaspoon parsley dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper ground, fresh

In a large skillet fry hamburger and onion. Once burger is browned drain well. Drain beans in a colander. Combine flour, chili powder, red pepper, onion, garlic, sugar, cumin, parsley, salt, basil, and pepper. Set aside. Place hamburger/onion mixture in a large stock pot. Add beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and seasonings. Simmer for 3 hours. Serve with Iowa Cornbread and cheddar cheese.
