Rinse and drain the dry lentils. In a saucepan combine the lentils, chicken broth, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, celery, parsley, basil, garlic, and pepper. Simmer for 45-50 minutes untils lentils and vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally.
