Brown Rice is a must-serve at big family dinners in South Carolina. It's really white rice in disguise... Use Texas Pete for the hot sauce; I have some homemade pepper sauce that is also good. This is one of my grandmother's recipes.

  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 12-oz can beef consomme
  • 1 can (12 oz) water
  • 3/4 stick margarine
  • 1/3 teaspoon hot sauce

Saute onion in oleo. Mix catchup up in one of the liquids with fork. Then mix all ingredients together in casserole dish. Bake at 350 for approx. 1 hr. Check rice kernels about 45 minutes.
