To assemble Jar for Gift 1. Place 1/2 cup split peas into a wide mouth pint canning jar. Top with 1/2 cup lentils. Follow with remaining 1/2 cup split peas and remaining lentils. 2. Mix seasoning ingredients in small bowl. Place sandwich bag and tie seasoning into a corner of pag with a piece of ribbon. 3. Decorate jar lid attaching seasoning packet Recipe Card: Lentil Soup 1. Empty jar into a colander, pick over peas and rinse well. 2. Place in large pot with 7 cups water 3. Add 1 chopped medium onion and seasoning packet 4. Bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. for thicker soup, remove cover for last 15 minutes. Cook's note: Add 1 lb. chopped ham.
