Delicious and easy scones from scratch. A friend who happens to be the best baker I have ever met gave me this recipe.

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4+ tablespoon granulated sugar give or take
  • .75 tsp baking powder
  • .75 tsp baking soda
  • .25 tsp kosher salt
  • 10 tblsp butter
  • .75 cups buttermilk or sour milk

1. Mix all dry ingredients with fingers. 2. Cut in butter with a fork (if you are adding any kind of dried fruit or chocolate chips, this is the time) just until it sticks together (knead a bit if you think it would help...I don't:)) 3. Divide into two balls. 4. Flatten balls with palm of hand--not too thin, think of a scone. 5. Divide into six wedges--very simple if you flatten into circle-like objects. 6. Bake for 375 degrees for around 15 minutes. Above is a basic, plain scone: I have found that adding white chocolate chips and dried cranberries makes an EXCELLENT scone; however, try cheese, spices/herbs (fresh or dry), citrus peel, chocolate chips, other dried fruits, coffee...the possibilities are endless.
