I don't know if this recipe was "borrowed" from someone or if my mom came up with it on her own, but whatever the source, she's been making it for years and it's darn good stuff! I love making this for neighborhood barbecues. The blend of sweet and smokey really makes this dish a huge hit!

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 15 oz can black beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 tbs liquid smoke
  • 1 pound sliced bacon
  • 4 15 oz cans pork and beans
  • 1 18 oz bottle honey barbecue sauce
  • 1 16 oz can kidney beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 15 1/4 oz can butter beans rinsed and drained
  • 3 tbs apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp sea salt finely ground
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper finely ground

In a large skillet, fry the beef and onions over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain and transfer to a crockpot. In the same skillet, fry the bacon crispy. When cool enough to touch, crumble the bacon and transfer it to the crockpot with the hamburger and onions. Add in all the remaining ingredients and cook on low for about 8 hours. Serve and enjoy!
