Pork stew with peas

Pork stew with peas
Pork stew with peas
This is traditional Croatian dish usually cooked in the countryside. Easy to prepare and very light. Good during cold winter days to warm up a little bit and during hot summer days when you sweat a lot. It is healthy and low fat. I would suggest it to athletes and people on diet. This is well balanced meal with enough carbs, proteins, little fat and lots of fluid and electrolytes.

Heat olive oil in a pot and put in onion chopped into small pieces. Stew it slowly for 10 minutes. Add pork, carrots, peas and all spices (except sweet chilli powder). Cook it for 5 to 10 minutes until meat becomes white and releases water. Add water just enough to cover all ingredients and cook 30 minutes. Don't forget to cover the pot. Put in chopped potatoes and add more water if necessary to cover everything again. Cook for 15-20 minutes (until potato is almost done). In the end, add 2 full tee spoons of sweet pepper powder and cook for 10 more minutes (let stew to boil freely). Try not to use mixing spoon. I occasionally lift the pot and turn it few times left-right as a steering wheel. This way all ingredients will be in one piece. I would suggest to leave the stew for an hour in a pot to cool a little bit before serving. If you like, you can serve it with sour cream. To reduce total time of cooking, sometimes I use pressure cooker. But for better taste make it in traditional way. Enjoy! :-)
