The first time I enjoyed this recipe they handed it to me in a mug and smelling the sweetness I thought it was hot chocolate. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was made mostly with beans and purple sweet potato ( not yam )

5 cups water
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 stick cinnamon
1 cup dry beans
or canned pinto or romano beans
1 medium sweet purple potato cubed and cooked
1/2 cup golden raisins boiled
1 teaspoon white vanilla extract dark will also do.
nutmeg optional
allspice optional
1 package vanilla wafer maria cookies crumbled also works.
Cook beans to slightly soft add salt.
thoroughly cook, partially mash or blend in blender with condensed milk
put back in pot add sweet potato, raisins and sweet spices
pour into bowls or mugs and before serving add wafers or cookies.
