Made in cans, The Recipe my Grandma made for as long as I can remember. ( makes 6 cans)

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 package dates (not sugared)
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Sprinkle baking soda over dates and add boiling water over all. Mix cream sugar and butter until mixed. Add eggs one at a time. Sift flour and salt together. Gradually add to egg mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Grease 6 cans well. Add above mixture, filling cans half full. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
